Explore the Different Types of Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are natural components, contained in the cannabis plant and are used by our endocannabinoid system. These components are responsible for many of the medicinal properties of the plant. The endocannabinoid system is the largest neurotransmitter system in the mammalian body and they help us control appetite, mood, motor functions, memory, pain, immunity, and reproduction.

Our body produces cannabinoids called endocannabinoids and the cannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant are known as phytocannabinoids. The cannabinoids produced by our body are not the same as those of the plant, but they interact with the endocannabinoid system, producing effects similar to those produced by our body.

There are over 110 cannabinoids. Typically the most famous cannabinoids are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). They have been widely known for their healing properties, such as helping to relieve pain, alleviating depression, relieving insomnia, and fighting cancer.

These other cannabinoids are less famous and don't take long to be discovered, but their healing properties are reasons to explore them.

CBN

Cannabinol is known as CBN and is famous for its sedative effects, helping you get a good rest. This cannabinoid has effects similar to indica plants and can be compared to sleeping medications, such as diazepam (Ambien). This contains mild, to no psychoactive effects. Over time and oxygen, it breaks down THC and turns it into CBN.

It is known to help you fall asleep, relieve pain, and increase your appetite, but it does not cause hunger. Cannabis flowers normally contain a very low percentage of CBN, which is why this cannabinoid, for the most part, is available in some concentrate.

CBG

Cannabigerol, or CBG, is in abundance in plants that are not mature and while the plant is maturing it disappears. It is considered a minor cannabinoid. This cannabinoid has shown relief from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, relieving eye pressure in glaucoma patients, and fighting cancer cells.

Some farmers are working to create strains, which obtain and maintain this cannabinoid at high levels until harvest. As it is found in low amounts in the plant, you can find this cannabinoid in concentrates, vape-pens, pills, and dermal patches.

Delta-8 THC

Delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol, or Delta-8 THC, is the fourth most common cannabinoid. It is similar to its more recognized relative, Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but it is less psychoactive. In studies with mice, it showed a decrease in cancerous tumors.

It is also known to help relieve anxiety, calm nausea, and stimulate the appetite. Although this cannabinoid is common, you will only see it in the form of distilled concentrates to vaporize and in 'vape pens'.

THCV

Tetrahydrocannabivarin, or THCV, is a cannabinoid that sometimes causes psychoactive effects and sometimes does not. While scientists continue to study how THCV works in the body, we know that it helps treat diabetes by regulating blood sugar levels. It is recommended to eat 30 minutes after consuming this cannabinoid, so as not to have low blood sugar.

Currently, several universities are conducting scientific studies on the potential of this cannabinoid in eliminating anxiety in post-traumatic stress patients and reducing panic attacks. The effects it has on reducing tremors, brain injuries, and loss of motor activities, associated with Alzheimer's disease, are also being studied.

It is an appetite suppressant, which can be a supplement, that you can add to aid in weight loss treatments. For this reason, this cannabinoid can be avoided by patients with anorexia and who have extreme weight loss or malnutrition. This cannabinoid can be consumed in concentrates, distillates, pills, vape pens and in the flower when it contains large amounts.

Some plants go through processes, which degrade or remove different components of the plant. To be safe, always ask for laboratory tests, which indicate their components, percentages, and potencies. With all these new cannabinoids, we must not leave the complete extract of the plant unnoticed. Which contains all the components of the cannabis plant.

This extract contains what is called, the complete spectrum of cannabis, that is, it contains all the medicinal properties of the plant. Isolated cannabinoids may help, but the key is in how each of the components complements each other.
